Five (Delicious!) Inflammation FightersIf you’ve read up on chronic inflammation, you know the foods that are the biggest promoters, including sugar, dairy and pretty much anything fried or filled with trans-fats. However, did you know that there are some tasty foods that actually can help? It’s true; researchers have discovered you could beat pain and find relief from chronic inflammation by simply eating certain foods. Here are just a few of the inflammation fighters that may already be in your fridge or panty.

  1. Coffee:
That’s right, one cup o’ Joe can provide relief from headaches and provide a dose of antioxidants as well. Additionally, research has also shown that drinking coffee may reduce the risk of some cancers.
  2. Cherries:
There may be some wisdom in the old adage that “life is just a bowl of cherries.” It seems that this luscious fruit offers plenty of healthy life benefits including reducing inflammation by neutralizing free radicals in the body. It seems that anthocyanins, which give tart cherries their deep red hue, have inflammation fighting properties similar to those in aspirin.
  3. Sage:
A favorite in poultry dishes, sage has been used for centuries and contains hard-working flavonoids that help reduce swelling and may actually boost memory, too.
  4. Ginger:
A jack-of-all-trades, ginger has long been used to treat a variety of ailments from stomachaches to heart conditions. This anti-inflammatory flavoring makes an excellent addition to a variety of foods.
  5. Cloves:
This spice is ranked very high in antioxidant properties. The unique combination of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties offers a myriad of health benefits from heart disease to cancer. Cloves contain an anti-inflammatory chemical called eugenol that is thought to inhibit a protein that spurs inflammation.
