Health Supplement Company Launches New Dog Treat
Backed by Oregon State University Research
Vigorate by JuvenonT Can Help Old Dogs Learn New Tricks
Incline Village, NV, December 14, 2007 - A research announcement was recently published in the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) Journal which proves new dog treat, Vigorate (www.vigorate.com) increases the ability for older dogs to learn new tasks. This research goes against the saying, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
Vigorate is an easy to consume and likable dog treat created by the makers of Juvenon™, a dietary supplement for humans which combines a natural, energy-boosting component (acetyl-L-carnitine) with a powerful antioxidant (alpha lipoic acid). Vigorate combines these same two ingredients.
These two supplements were the focus of a recent study by researchers at the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University (OSU), the University of Toronto, California/Berkeley, Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute, and Juvenon, Inc.
The study found that food with these two antioxidant compounds, which are believed to play a role in slowing mitochondrial decay in the cell, significantly increased the ability of “geriatric” beagle dogs to learn a new task.
“This is the first time these two compounds, by themselves, have been tested in canines, which have brains that are more biologically similar to humans than some other animal models,” said Tory Hagen, an associate professor at OSU’s Linus Pauling Institute, and recognized expert on the biological processes of aging. “The results should be relevant to what we could expect with humans, and are very encouraging.”
The study builds on similar findings made several years ago on mice and published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In that research, the activity and energy level of old rats taking these same supplements almost doubled, and memory and cognitive function improved.
Originally patented in the year 2000 and armed with numerous success stories of favorable effects Juvenon had on dogs, Nathan Hamilton, chairman and CEO of Juvenon, designed Vigorate to help dogs live healthier during their older years.
Vigorate is a small (5 gram) semi-moist, chicken-flavored treat shaped as a dog bone. Dogs get one treat for every 10 pounds of body weight, making it easy for pet owners to accurately control the amount fed.
The recent study findings were announced in late summer 2007 and published in the November 2007 FASEB Journal. The research proved the effects of these compounds appeared to work fairly quickly, in a matter of days or weeks, the scientists said.
